BLACK BERRY

Canada-based Research in Motion(RIM), the makers of Black Berry, on Monday 30th August,2010 provided certain proposals for lawful access to its service by india's security agencies, sources in the Homr ministry said.
The Company will set up a server in India. The department of Telecommunication (DoT) would study the feasibility of all such services being provided through the server located only in India.
The Home Ministry will review security issues related to Black Berry in 60 days, by which time the DoT is expected to submit its report. The ministry had earlier imposed a dead line of August 31 on RIM and made it clear that the company would have to offer a solution to share heavily encrypted data or be ready to face a shut down of its operations in India.
The government was concerned that terror elements could misuse Black Berry's heavily encrypted services. There are about 10 lakh Black Berry subsribers in India.
