BIBLICAL TOUCH

Traditionally, Bharatanatyam Classical dance from of south India, deals with Indian mythology, epics and puranas in its theme. But it need no to be necessarily so. Lissy muraleedharan who in one of her recent performances adopted instances and situations from the Bible in to the art form to the pleasant surprise of connoisseurs.
Lissy, who hails from Kozhikodu, along with her co-dancers presented the experimental piece of Bharatanatyam during the concluding ceremony of the Onam celebration organized by the District Tourism promotion council in the Kozhikodu city recently.
Any thing religious or otherwise with room for expressive visualization can be adapted in to Bharatanatyam says the dancer, whose recital titled ‘Christu Vignaneeyam was based on some of the celebrated Biblical events, which offered a whiff of thematic freshness to the dance form.
The hour-long rendering brought on stage as many as seven well known situation including the famous handing out of five loaves of bread by Jesus Christ to 5,000 people and bestowing of sight to blind people, as it was mentioned in the Bible.
