VACCINATION DEATHS
Four infants died in Lucknow after being given anti-measles vaccine. The centre government has sent a two-member team to Lucknow to probe the deaths of four infants who lost their lives after being administered anti-measles vaccination at an immunisation camp.
The team has submit a preliminary report. The death took place on Saturday 21st August,2010, following which the immunisation drive was suspended by the Uttarpradesh government and a departmental enquiry ordered.
The Health and Family welfare ministry team will ascertain wheather the vaccines were spurious expired. The anti-measles vaccination is adminisstered only to children older than nine months. The dead infants were less than four months old. With in minutes of being given the shots, the children felt breathless, started sweating and their pulse rate droped. They died even before medical help could arrive.
