SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT
SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT
There is beauty in every living creature. There is a purpose for their existence. June 5 is a world environment day. The theme for this year(2010) is “ Biodiversity- ecosystems management and the Green Economy”.
In a tropical country like ours, there is an increadible variety of creatures, in water, on land and in trees. There are also many kinds of plants. This is called biodiversity. Where there is plenty of food available there will be an astounding variety of animals, insects and plants. 18 places on the earth noted for its biodiversity.
We exploited and spoilt nature. We destroyed the habitates of many of these animals and birds. We destroyed the forests for roads ,dams andcash crops. We poisoned the fields with chmicals and killed all the small insects. By excessivee fishing in thesea we have reduced the population offish like tuna and shark. The Blue whale has been hunted for years by humans and now tthere are very few left.
After much damage has been done to our surroundings, we have realised that we are harming our only home. By excessive use of consumer goods we have damaged the ozone layer, which protects the earth like an umbrella.
We are now strggling to save the planet. In this effort each one of us can lend our hands, by using less water, less electricity and less fuel. We can plant trees and care for them. Avoid the use of plastic bags. Above all our lifestyle should be such that we donot further damage the environment.
We can join movement and organisations that protect the environment and conserve wild life. It should not be at a hobby level. It should be deep concern that should grow in to a passion.
