J.C DANIEL AWARD FOR SETHUMADHAVAN

Veteran Director K.S Sethumadhavan has won the J.C Daniel Award(2009), instituted by the state government for his life long contributions to Cinema. The award carries Rs 1laskh and citatioin. Mr Sethumadhavan is one of gthe early film directors. He was known as for his simple narratives. He creatively connected malayalam literature to cinema.
Mr Sethumadhavan was completing 50 years as a director this year(2010) His first film was a Sinhalese film Veera Vijaya produced in 1960. His first malayalam film was Gnana Sundari. Mr Sethumadavan has directed films in six languages including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.He was the first Tamil Film medal to win the presidents gold medal(Marupakkam) He has won kerala state film awards for his film Vazhe Mayam (1970),Karakankkadal(1971, Pani Theerathe veedu(1972) and Oppol(1980) Film director K.G George headed the committee.
