CONDOLENCE TO THE VICTIMS FAMILIES OF PLANE CRASHES AT MANGALORE ON 22nd MAY,2010
Air India express flight IX-812 from Dubai with 160 passengers and six crew members on board oerf shop the table-top runway at mangalore air port at 6.10 am on Saturday 22nd May,2010 and plunged over a cliff in to a wooded valley where it burst in to flames. One hundred and fifty eight passengerss survived. The passengers included 137 adults, 19 children and 4 infants.
The reasons for the crash are as yet unclear. The pilot did not report any problem or deficiency either during the course of the flight. Captain Glusica hd 10,200 hours of flying experience. He was familiar with the air port and had made 19 landings there. His co- pilot H.S Ahluwalia based in Mangalore, had 3650 hours of flying experience, and he too was familiar with airfield.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel accepted moral responsibility for the crash. Mr Patel said the run way was made operational in 2006, and its friction quotient had been tested only recebtly. Winds were calm, weather was fine and the visibility was about six km. The frun way was completely dry and on a normal day, all these parameters were perfect for a normal landing. He said the runway, with a length of 8000 feet was sufficient for air craft.
As pointed out by Captain A Ranganathan” the mangalore accident was indeed the result of c omplacency in the system. But, then, are we going to learn any lesson from the tragedy? Or will it be the same scenario- expressing shock, offering condolences to the victims families and finding a few scape goats after a routine enquiry by those who are ultimately answerable for tragedy.
India has a relatively good civil aviation safety record but experts have been expressing the view that safety standards have been slipping in recent years. Any way there is something seriously wrong with in the system

Indeed very sad to learn about this deadliest flight accident ever happened in India. The most common reason understood from many other pilots and local area people is the relatively shorter length of runway which urged the pilot to suddenly decrease the speed of plane. He might have avoided this tragedy by taking off the plane and making another round for safer landing. May God bless them all who had lost their life!
