POTENTIAL FOR EXCELLENCE
(11th five year Plan)
Seven colleges in the state have won the colleges with potential for Excellence recognition accorded by the university Grants Commission (UGC) under phase three of the 11th Five year plan. The institutions include Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, St Thomas College, Pala, Kottayam, Maharajas College, Ernakulam, St.Teresas College Ernakulam,Mar Athanesius College, Ernakulam district, Marian College Kuttikannam, Idukki and St. Joseph's College, Kozhikodu.
These Colleges are among the 149 higher educational institutions in the country identified by the UGC as colleges with potential for excellence under phase three of the 11th Five plan period.
The scheme is aimed at strengthening the academic and physical infrastructure for achieving excellence in teaching research outreach programmes besides promoting flexible and effective governance. Other programme goals include enhancing the quality of the learning and teaching process at the undergraduate and post graduate level with the help of a flexible credit based modular systems, and whole range of innovations currently accepted globally, promoting academic programmes relevant to the socio-economic needs of the nation, and improving under graduate education in colleges by the interfacing of the post graduate programmes
