CONVOCATION DRESS

The Union Environment and Forests minister Jairam Ramesh who took off his grown during the convocation at the Indian Institute of Forest Management saying it was a colonial relic. If we have to discard every thing that is 'colonial' what about English Language, Parliamentary democracy, the postal system, the Railways. Convocation is a much-cherished occasion in everyone's life. Why should students wear simple casual dresses? Convocation are held only for a couple of hours in a reasonably cool and comfortable place.
The objective behind donning gowns at university convocation is to add dignity, solemnity and sanctity to the august occasion. The word convocation' a Latin word which means' calling together' refers to a group of people assembled for a special purpose with out a special dress it would look like any other ordinary function. A convocation is a proud and solemn occasion in the academic life of a student . There is nothing wrong if it is conducted in a ceremonial style.
We should concern about our basic climate and weather conditions. The judges and lawyers use colonial dress. it is the symbol of dignity and power. The pathetic condition is the state of salesmen and marketing executives who walk around in hot humid conditions in full-sleeve shirts and neck ties. It makes sense to wear a suit and neck tie in winter.
The wearing gowns are more suitable for the climate conditions prevalent in the west. It is very un comfortable and in appropriate in our country.
