LONDON SUMMIT ON TERROR THREAT FROM YEMEN

LONDON SUMMIT ON
TERROR THREAT FROM YEMEN

Britain has called a summit of world leaders in London later this month, January, 2010 to discuss the terror threat posed by Yeman seen with concern in the west as a new breeding ground for al Queda- linked extremists.
The move comes after it emerged that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the young Nigerian who allegedly attempted to blow up a plane over Detroit on Christmas day, was trained in Yeman.
He is reported to have told investigations that he was radicalized and trained in yemen. A yemeni offshoot of the al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the failed plot. The incident has promoted concern that the al Qaeda, under pressure in Afghanistan, has set its sights of yeman as a new safe haven. The conference, to be held along side an international conference on Afghanistan on January 28, is said to have support of U.S president Barack Obama, the European union and the Arab world. Besides U.S secretary of state Hillary Clinton, representatives from Saudi Arabian and the Gulf countries are expected to attend the summit
Yeman said that it would not tolerate terrorist elements on its territories. But the somali Islamist group announced they would scold militants to the country to reinforce the al Qeada branch there. Yemeni Foreign minister Abu Bakr Abdullah al Kurbi said the country would be on guard against any one attempting to undermine its security and stability
The United states has indefinitely shut down its embassy in sana's with in days of the attempt by a Nigerian national to blow up a U.S passenger jet in mid-air. The men was apparently working for a branch of the AL Qaeda based in Yemen. The British embassy in Sana's too was closed. The U.S Embassy in Sana's is closed on Sunday, January 3, 2010, in response to ongoing threats by the AL Qaeda in the Arabian peninsula to attack American interests in Yemen”
