KERALA SCHOOL KALOLSAVAM
50th Kerala School Kalolsavam started on Saturday 9th January,2010 at the Manachira square, Kozhicode. Education Minister M. A Baby lights traditional lamp as he inaugurated the week-long festival at its main stage.
Kozhikode, and the rest of the state, will indeed be looking forward to the next six days as about 9,000 talented school students will show case their skills in a variety of art forms at what is billed as Asia's largest meeting of youth talents.
A cultural pageantry depicting the cultural traditions of Malabar and its history, besides show casing the states traditional art forms, was taken out in the city on Saturday setting in motion the golden jubilee edition of the state school arts festival martial arts exponents, band troupes and striking floats formed part of the pageantry of at 4 pm from the Christian college grounds.
Number 5o formed the general theme of the pageantry to mark the 50th edition of the event. The number of performers in each category in the pageantry was restricted to 50. the procession started off with a group show by 50 chenda exponents accompanied by other traditional festival instruments. The number of decorative umbrella in a cluster was kept at 50. There were 5o children dressed as little butterflies and an equal number of thiruvathira performers. It took more than an hour for the procession to reach the mainvenu, mananchira square, when the inaugural took place at 6.30 p.m
