Today is world Diabetes Day. Diabetes is today one of the most dreaded life style diseases. Diabetes in kerala between 15-21 % with is far far higher than any other state in India. It is shameful. Kerala being a state with close to 100 % literacy?
Once diabetes in diagonalized, daily exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes should be made compulsory. Brisk walking, cycling, swimming or dancing are all equally good. At least once in 4 to 6 months, patients should under go extensive laboratory and physical evaluations.
Not only physical but mental stress can also result in fluctuations in sugar values. P. Kesavadev Trust is proving free diabetes treatment on all thursays to the poor. 7 out of 100 India adults are diabetic. Regular walk of at least 30 minutes per day reduces the risk of type 22 diabetes by 35-40 percent according to international Diabetes Federation.
According to the world Health Organisation India leads the world in terms of the number of people with diabetes: 41 million in 2009. This number is set to increase to 70 million by 2025. This, unfortunately makes india the “ diabetes capital of the world”
Traditionally diabetes was considered a disease of the rich and elderly. These assumptions are no longer true.
