ISRO CHAIRMAN
Sri K. Radhakrishnan, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) Thiruvananthapuram, took over as chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) from G. Madhavan Nair on Saturday, 31 th October,2009.
Dr Radhakrishan , who also assumed office as chairman of space Commission and secretary of the department of space, has 38 years of experience in space technology, applications and space programme management.
He graduated in electrical engineering from kerala University and obtained his MBA from he Indian Institute of Management,Bangalore. He received his Ph.D from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 2000. He has been a member of the space Commission since October 2008.
Dr. Radhakrishnan, 60, began his career when he joined the VSSC as an avionics engeineer in 1971. since then, he has held several posts such as the project Director for setting up the Regional Remote- Sensing Service Centres, the Director of Budget and Economic Analysis for ISRO and the mission Director of the Integrated mission of for sustainable Development. He has had a short stint in ministry of Earth Science during 2004-05 as the founder director of the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information services and the first project Director of the Indian National Centre of the Indian National Tsunami warning system. From 2005 to 2008, he was the Director of the national Remote-sensing Agency, Hydrabad, which has now been renamed the National Remote- sensing centre.
When Dr Radhakrishnan was the VSSC Director from 2007 to 2009, there were five successful launches of the ISRO's polar satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) which totally put 20 space craft, including Chandraayan-1 in orbit
VEERARAGHVAN IS VSSC DIRECTOR
Mr P.S Veeraraghavan, an rocket technologist, took over on saturday 31 th October,2009 as director, Vikram Sarabhai space centre (VSSC) Thiruvananthapuram from K . Radhakrishnan who has been appointed chairman, Indian spce Research organisation.
