SUGATHAKUMARI
Poet Sugathakumari has been selected for Ezhuthachan puraskaram
(2009),the state government's highest literary honour. Sugathakumari was chosen for award in view of her outstanding contribution to malayalam literature.
Named after father of Malayalam Literature and medieval pet Thunchath Ezhuthachan, the award carries Rs 1 lakh, citation and a statuette. Sugathakumari's work reflects the modern man's cultural and spiritual dilemma's.
Sugathakumari had played a pivotal role, in the save silentvally movement. She actively taking up women's issues, the poet formed Abhayagramam, a center for destitute women, and Athani, a day care center for the mentally challenged. She had also served as the chairperson of the kerala state women's commission.
Sugathakumari Born in 1934, she was inspired by her father Bodheswaran, who was a freedom fighter and eminent poet. She had won a number of awards including the kendra sahitya Akademi award, Odakuzhal award, Lalithambika Antharjanam award, Vallathol award and balamani Amma award.
Muthuchippikal, Pathirapookal, Paavam Manava Hridayam, Irul- chirakukal, Raathri Mazha, Ambalamani, Kurinji Pookkal, Thulavarsha pacha and Radhayevide are some of her prominent works.
