TRIBUTE TO
ACTOR RAJAN P. DEV
Renowned actor Rajan P. Dev, 55 died on Wednesday morning, 29th July 2009. The actor was admitted three days ago and had slipped into coma with high ammonia level in his blood. He was undergoing treatment for liver disorder and complications of high blood sugar at Lakeshore Hospital.
The body was taken to Cherthala his native place, and was kept at municipal office for public to pay homage. Later in the afternoon, his body was brought to the Ernakulam Town Hall. Hundreds paid homage to the veteran actor at both the venues.
The body was taken from to his home at karukutty, near Angamaly. The funeral will be held at 11 am at St. Xavier’s church in Angamaly on Thursday 30th July 2009 with full state honours. The actor leaves behind his wife shantamma daughter Asha, sons Jubiraj and Unniraj.
The actor, with his myriad char actors in more than 150 films, including Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, was shooting for a Malayalam film titled Ringtone of late. He had also started work on a new directorial venture under Kichu Films titled Simham, for which shooting was about to start. His last rekease’ Ee Pattanathil Bhootham (Malayalam) is currently running in cinema halls.
Hundreds of fans gathered at the Town Hall to pay their respects. Chief Minister described Rajan P. Dev’s contribution for the stage and screen as unforgettable. The cultural Minister said that the role of Kochuvava done by Rajan. P Dev in the play ‘Kattukuthira ‘would never fade from the mind of the viewers. He gave a new dimension to the Villainous characters he portrayed
The Malayalam Film industry has lost one its versatile actors with the death of Rajan P. Dev. He was born on may 20, 1954 at Cherthala to S.J Dev and Kuttiamma. Rajan P. Dev pursued his school education at St. Michaels’s Cherthala and Cherthala High School He did his higher studies at S.N College Cherthala. Passionate about movies he worked as film representative at the famous Udaya Studio in Alappuzha before making his debut in sanchari (1981)_ the role of an Advocate in the super-hit movie, Ente Mamattikutty Ammayku, won him the appreciation of both directors and movie buffs.
An actor, who keenly involved in the professional Theatre movement in the state, Rajan P. Dev was instrumental in keeping alive the spirit of theatre by launching the famous Jubilee Theatres.His outstanding contributions to the growth of the professional drama got recognition when the state government selected him as the best drama actor in 1984 and 1986. Rajan P Dev will be remaining immortal in the minds of art and drama lovers for his exceptional portrayal of the character of kochuvava in the pay Kattukuthira.
The drama was staged at several places across the state and theatre lovers thronged the venu to watch the performance of the actor.
He entered the hearts of film lovers by inventing a new style for the villain role with his controlled performances and deft body movements
