KRISHNAN KUTTY DEAD
Gaja Muthachen Krishnan kutty 92 year old tusker which died on Saturday 30th may 2009 at Kottarakara was cremated with relious ritues at the Kottarakara Maha Ganapathy Temple ground on Sunday 31 th may 2009. Krishnankutty was reportedly the oldest captive elephant on record in the country.
The cremation was held after was conducted earlier in the day by a team of vetenarians led by Dr B. Aravind by 10.am the carcais, draped in flowers, was kept in a pandal for the public to pay homage to the tusker that was a familiar face in kottarakara for over 80 years.
The pyre was prepared by digging an 8 ft deep pit. A large quantity of firewood, Sandalwood. Coconut shells and husk, ghee, camphor and Ramacham made up the pyre. It was lit at 2.pm jointly by the Assistant Commissioner of Travancore Devasam Board and the Melshanti of the temple.
Dr Aravind said the post mortem examination showed that the animal was suffering from serious lung infection. The tusker had also contracted pneumonia and clotting deficiency and were also age related health problems
