ജൂൺ 17 ലോകമെമ്പാടും ലോക മരുഭൂമീകരണവും വരൾച്ചയും പ്രതിരോധ ദിനമായി (World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought) ആചരിക്കുന്നു. ഭൂമിയുടെ നാശം (Land Degradation) തടയുന്നതിനും നശിച്ച ഭൂമിയെ പുനഃസ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നതിനുമായി നടക്കുന്ന ആഗോള ശ്രമങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് ജനങ്ങളിൽ അവബോധം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുകയാണ് ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ആചരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ദിനത്തിന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യം.

മരുഭൂമീകരണം, മണ്ണൊലിപ്പ്, വരൾച്ച തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ ലോകമെമ്പാടുമുള്ള ജനങ്ങളുടെ ജീവിതത്തെയും ഭക്ഷ്യസുരക്ഷയെയും പരിസ്ഥിതിയെയും സാരമായി ബാധിക്കുന്നു. അതിനാൽ ഭൂമി സംരക്ഷിക്കാനും ജലസ്രോതസ്സുകൾ നിലനിർത്താനും സുസ്ഥിര വികസനം ഉറപ്പാക്കാനും ഈ ദിനം പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകുന്നു.

2026-ലെ പ്രമേയം

“റേഞ്ച്‌ലാൻഡുകൾ: തിരിച്ചറിയുക (Recognize), ആദരിക്കുക (Respect), പുനഃസ്ഥാപിക്കുക (Restore)”

ഈ പ്രമേയം റേഞ്ച്‌ലാൻഡുകളുടെ (മേയൽപ്പുറങ്ങളും പ്രകൃതിദത്ത പുൽമേടുകളും) പ്രാധാന്യം ലോകശ്രദ്ധയിൽ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നു. ഭക്ഷ്യസുരക്ഷ, ജൈവവൈവിധ്യ സംരക്ഷണം, കാലാവസ്ഥാ വ്യതിയാനങ്ങളെ നേരിടാനുള്ള ശേഷി എന്നിവയിൽ റേഞ്ച്‌ലാൻഡുകൾ വഹിക്കുന്ന നിർണായക പങ്ക് ഈ പ്രമേയം എടുത്തുകാട്ടുന്നു.

ഈ വർഷത്തെ ആഗോളാചരണത്തിന് ആതിഥേയത്വം വഹിച്ചത് Kilifi എന്ന സ്ഥലമാണ്. വരണ്ട പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ ജനങ്ങൾ നേരിടുന്ന വെല്ലുവിളികളും അവയ്ക്കുള്ള പരിഹാര മാർഗങ്ങളും ഈ വേദിയിൽ ചർച്ച ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു.

• വൃക്ഷത്തൈകൾ നട്ട് പരിപാലിക്കുക
• മഴവെള്ള സംഭരണം പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുക
• മണ്ണൊലിപ്പ് തടയുന്നതിനുള്ള നടപടികൾ സ്വീകരിക്കുക
• ജലസംരക്ഷണ രീതികൾ പിന്തുടരുക
• സുസ്ഥിര കൃഷിരീതികൾ പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുക
• പ്രകൃതിവിഭവങ്ങൾ ഉത്തരവാദിത്തത്തോടെ ഉപയോഗിക്കുക

“ഭൂമിയെ സംരക്ഷിക്കുക, ഭാവിയെ സംരക്ഷിക്കുക” എന്ന സന്ദേശമാണ് ഈ ദിനം നമ്മെ ഓർമ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. മരുഭൂമീകരണവും വരൾച്ചയും ചെറുക്കാൻ സർക്കാർ, സംഘടനകൾ, സമൂഹങ്ങൾ, വ്യക്തികൾ എന്നിവർ ഒരുമിച്ച് പ്രവർത്തിക്കേണ്ടത് അനിവാര്യമാണ്.
