                                                           GOOD MORNINGDOCTOR-

FOREWORD

By Prof. Dr.Abraham Karickam

GOOD MORNING DOCTOR- written by my long- time friend and fellow traveller Prof. John Kurakaris a stunning account of the hell he experienced here in real life. We will be spell bound by the narratives in each page, as the hardships suffered by a cancer patient goes beyond our expectation and imagination. His daughter Dr.Manju Kurakkar recalls what trauma they under went and that testifies to theuntold miseries suffered by the whole family during that period of turbulence:“Yet, beyond thesorrow, he stood as a noble example of survival, a model of courage who had walked from the dark days to light, fighting and emerging victorious.” She thengoes on describing all aspects of the diagnostic perils of a person facingstage 3 cancer. Prof. John had to undergo a series of treatment, hithertounheard in his life, but the amazing story is that he could face the terribleand face it boldly. This books not only unveils the darkest recesses anddimensions of a life threatening disease, but also shows how one can deal withit by sheer courage and faith. I would call this book as a journey by Faith andFaith alone. It is not unusuthat a person is diagnosed with cancer, but to go deep into the medical aspects related to it and follow the treatment meticulously even while undergoing extraordinary treatment is something very special and not given to all. We will shudder at the very thought of all the intricacies’ of both the disease and the ensuing treatment. Swami Vivekananda once said like this: “ Your good thoughts and actions will always be there to protect you with the wings of thousand angels”. This is exactly what happened in the life of Prof. Kurakkar.

I know the author from childhood days and we worked sincerely in various social voluntary organisations like All Kerala Balajana Sakhyam, United Religions Initiative, Paliative Care Movement and so on. His commitment and social consciousness is very admirable. We had the opportunity to travel together to many parts of the world for many URI meetings and Holy Books Conferences. Every where he displayed endearing qualities and extraordinary leadership qualities.

I often wonder why such trials and tribulations are given to people who really live for the society at large, and at the same time I know God will give to a loved one, only what he/she can endure and withstand. I would advise very one to read this book very carefully, which would help to lead a life with courage and hope. This book provides a wonderful reading experience and the style is compelling and the tone emphatic. John Milton ends his famous poem “Lycidas” with the following line: “Tomorrow to fresh woods and pastures new”. Yes, we are called to go on to new tomorrows every day in our life journey and this book will definitely inspire each and every one to continue our life journey without ever deviating to despondency and hopelessness. It reminds us the ultimate truth that there will be always light at the end of the tunnel.
