US AND ISRAEL WITHDRAW

അമേരിക്കയ്ക്ക് പിന്നാലെ ഇസ്രായേലും

 യുനസ്‌കോയില്‍ നിന്നും പിന്മാറ്റം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു

The US has announced it will withdraw from the United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), accusing the body of "anti-Israel bias".Heather Nauert, US state department spokesperson, said on Thursday the US would establish an "observer mission" to replace its representation at the Paris-based agency.In a statement announcing its withdrawal, Israel called the US administration's decision "courageous and moral", and accused UNESCO of becoming a "theatre of the absurd".

"The prime minister instructed the foreign ministry to prepare Israel's withdrawal from the organisation alongside the United States," Benjamin Netayanu's office said in a statement.Irina Bokova, the outgoing UNESCO head, called the US withdrawal a "loss to multilateralism", saying she is convinced that "UNESCO has never been so important for the US, or the US for UNESCO".At a time when "conflicts continue to tear apart societies across the world, it is deeply regrettable for the United States to withdraw from the United Nations agency promoting education for peace and protecting culture under attack," she said.

Thursday's development demonstrates the US administration's "complete and total bias" towards Israel, says Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, a political party comprising mostly secular intellectuals.

അമേരിക്കയ്ക്കൊപ്പം യുനസ്കോയില് നിന്നും പിന്മാറുന്നതിനുള്ള നടപടി ക്രമങ്ങള് പൂര്ത്തിയാക്കാന് ആഭ്യന്തര മന്ത്രാലയം നിര്ദ്ദേശം നല്കിയതായി പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി ബെഞ്ചമിന് നെതന്യാഹുവിന്റെ ഓഫീസ് വക്താക്കള് പ്രതികരിച്ചു.

യുനസ്കോയില് നിന്നും പിന്മാറ്റം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച യുഎസ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ട്രംപിന്റെ തീരുമാനം സ്വാഗതാര്ഹമാണെന്ന് നെതന്യാഹു പ്രതികരിച്ചു. പാരമ്പര്യത്തെ കാത്തുസംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിന് പകരം തകര്ക്കുകയാണ് യുനസ്കോ ചെയ്യുന്നത്. അസംബന്ധങ്ങളുടെ അരങ്ങായി മാറുകയാണ് യുനസ്കോ. ട്രംപിന്റേത് വളരെ ധീരമായ തീരുമാനമാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രതികരിച്ചു.

കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസമാണ് യുനസ്കോയില് നിന്നും പിന്മാറുമെന്ന് അമേരിക്ക പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. ഇസ്രായേല് വിരുദ്ധ നിലപാടുകള് സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നുവെന്ന് ആരോപിച്ചായിരുന്നു ഇത്. പാലസ്തീന് യുനസ്കോയില് അംഗത്വം നല്കിയതിനെ തുടര്ന്നുണ്ടായ നയതന്ത്ര പ്രശ്നങ്ങളാണ് പിന്മാറ്റത്തില് വരെ എത്തിച്ചത്.പിന്മാറ്റം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചെങ്കിലും ചട്ടപ്രകാരം 2018 ഡിസംബറോടെ മാത്രമേ നടപടികള് പൂര്ത്തിയാവുകയുള്ളൂ. അതുവരെ ഇരു രാജ്യങ്ങള്ക്കും യുനസ്കോയില് അംഗമായി തന്നെ തുടരേണ്ടി വരും.
