At least 59 people have been killed and 527 injured in the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.Police have named Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old from Mesquite, Nevada, as the gunman.Police found an arsenal of 42 firearms, explosives and thousands of ammunition rounds in both his Las Vegas hotel room and Mesquite home.Experts believe an accessory known as a bump-stock was probably used in the attack. It modifies a semi-automatic weapon to fire at an automatic rate.

There is still no known motive behind the attack, or any known links between Paddock and other organisations.The suspect’s girlfriend was named as a person of interest, but police said he acted alone and that authorities would interview the woman after she returned from a trip to Tokyo.President Donald Trump said he would visit Las Vegas on Wednesday and called the shooting “an act of pure evil”.Late night chat show hosts in the US have expressed outrage at the inability of US politicians to control guns and stand up to the powerful National Rifle Association. Theresa May said the UK could not understand US gun laws.

On Sunday night, a man shot at people attending an open air music concert there.At least 59 people have been killed and more than 500 people were injured.Police quickly arrived at the scene and have confirmed that the gunman is dead.The man has been identified as a local resident, and police do not yet know the reason for the attack, although they have said he is not thought to be part of any terrorist groups.Large parts of the city were locked down as police made sure people were safe.US President Donald Trump gave a statement at the White House, calling the shooting an "act of pure evil".He described the response of emergency services as "courageous" and "miraculous" and said the speed with which they found the attacker helped save

 ലാസ് വേഗാസില് വെടിവെപ്പ് നടത്തിയ സ്റ്റീഫന് ക്രെയ്ഗ് പാഡക്, വിരമിച്ച് വിശ്രമ ജീവിതം നയിക്കുന്ന അക്കൗണ്ടന്റ് ആണെന്ന് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തല്. സ്റ്റീഫന് ചൂതുകളി ഹരമായിരുന്നു. അറുപത്തിനാലുകാരനായ ഇയാളെ ‘പ്രൊഫഷണല് ചൂതാട്ടക്കാരന്’ എന്നാണ് സുഹൃത്തുക്കള് വിളിച്ചിരുന്നത്. പൈലറ്റ് ലൈസന്സുമുണ്ട്. അന്പത്തിയെട്ട് പേരാണ് ലാസ് വേഗാസില് വെടിവെപ്പില് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടത്. നാനൂറിലേറെ പേര്ക്ക് പരിക്കേറ്റു.

ഒരു ചെറിയ ട്രാഫിക് നിയമലംഘന കുറ്റം മാത്രമാണ് ഇതുവരെ സ്റ്റീഫന് ക്രെയ്ഗിന്റെ പേരിലുള്ളത്. തികച്ചും ശാന്തജീവിതം നയിച്ച വ്യക്തിയായിരുന്നു സ്റ്റീഫനെന്ന് സഹോദരന് എറിക് പാഡകിനെ ഉദ്ധരിച്ച് മാധ്യമങ്ങള് റിപ്പോര്ട്ട്  ചെയ്തു. എന്തും വാങ്ങാനുള്ള പണം കയ്യിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നെന്നും സഹോദരന് പറഞ്ഞു. എന്തും വാങ്ങാനുള്ള പണം തന്റെ സഹോദരന്റെ കയ്യിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നെന്നാണ് എറിക് പറയുന്നത്. എന്നാല് ഇതെവിടെ നിന്നാണെന്നറിയില്ല. ചൂതുകളിയില് നിന്നു ലഭിച്ചതാണെന്നാണ് സുഹൃത്തുക്കളോട് പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നത്.

സ്റ്റീഫന്റെ പിതാവ് പാട്രിക് ബെഞ്ചമിന് പാഡക് 1960-70കളില് ബാങ്ക് കൊള്ളക്കാരനായിരുന്നു. ഒരിക്കല് ജയില് ചാടിയതിനെത്തുടര്ന്ന്  എഫ്ബിഐയുടെ പിടികിട്ടാപുള്ളികളുടെ പട്ടികയിലും ഇടംപിടിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഏതാനും വര്ഷംി മുന്പ്െ പാട്രിക് മരിച്ചു. ഒരാഴ്ച മുന്പ്ി ഫ്‌ലോറിഡയില് ഇര്മ ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റ് ആഞ്ഞടിച്ചതിനു പിന്നാലെ സ്റ്റീഫന് അവിടെയുള്ള അമ്മയെ ഫോണില് വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു. തനിക്കും മെസേജ് അയച്ചിരുന്നതായി സഹോദരന് പറയുന്നു. അതായിരുന്നു ഇരുവരും തമ്മിലുള്ള അവസാന ആശയവിനിമയം. ഉല്ക്ക് വന്നുവീഴും പോലെയാണ് സ്റ്റീഫന്റെ അക്രമണത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള വാര്ത്തി കേട്ടതെന്നും എറിക് പറയുന്നു.

2015ലാണ് നെവാഡയ്ക്കടുത്ത് മെസ്‌ക്വിറ്റിലേക്ക് ഇയാള് താമസം മാറിയത്. ഫ്‌ലോറിഡയില് നിന്ന് മെസ്‌ക്വിറ്റിലേക്ക് വന്നത് തന്നെ അത് ചൂതുകളിക്കാരുടെ കേന്ദ്രമായതിനാലായിരുന്നു. വിരമിച്ച് വിശ്രമജീവിതം നയിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും  പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഇടമായിരുന്നു മെസ്‌ക്വിറ്റ്. ആഡംബര കപ്പലുകളിലെ ചൂതാട്ടകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലും നിത്യസന്ദര്ശികനായിരുന്നു സ്റ്റീഫന്. വിവാഹിതനാണെങ്കിലും കുട്ടികളുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. വെടിവയ്പിനു മുന്നോടിയായി മാന്ഡ്ലെ ബേ കാസിനോയില് മുറിയെടുക്കുമ്പോള് ഏഷ്യന് വംശജ മേരിലോ ഡാന്ലിതയും ഇയാള്ക്കൊ പ്പമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ചൂതാട്ടകേന്ദ്രത്തിലെ ജീവനക്കാരിയാണെന്നായിരുന്നു ഇവര് പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നത്. മെസ്‌ക്വിറ്റിലെ വീട്ടില് ഇവര് സ്റ്റീഫനൊപ്പം താമസിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ വെടിവയ്പു സമയത്ത് ഫിലിപ്പീന്സിംലായിരുന്നുവെന്നാണ് പൊലീസ് പറയുന്നത്.
