SHARJAH RULER MERCY TO FREE 149 INDIAN CONVICTS IN JAIL

In a goodwill gesture, Sharjah ruler Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi on Tuesday ordered the release of 149 Indian prisoners who are currently lodged in jails in Sharjah. The announcement was made by Mr Al-Qasami during his speech at Raj Bhavan after accepting the D.Litt conferred on him by the Calicut University. Earlier,  chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had requested the Sultan to release prisoners who are not facing grave criminal charges.The chief minister made the request to release those who had served three years sentence and jailed in connection with cheque cases and other  civil cases.

The Sultan said not just Indians but people from all countries who are not facing major criminal charges, would be released from jails. Those who receive amnesty need not leave Sharjah as arrangements would be made to provide better jobs to them. The Sultan's announcement was received with huge applause from the audience.Later in a Facebook post, the chief minister said Sultan’s announcement would be applicable to  all Malayalees who are currently lodged in Sharjah jails in connection with business related and other petty cases. The decision would give a ray of hope to Malayalees who are in jails in the other emirates of the UAE and other Gulf countries.

ഷാര്ജയിൽ ജയിലിലായിരുന്ന 149 ഇന്ത്യക്കാരെ മോചിപ്പിച്ചു. സാമ്പത്തിക കുറ്റകൃത്യങ്ങളിൽ പെട്ടവർക്കാണ് മോചനം ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. 20 വയസുമുതൽ 62 വയസുവരെയുള്ളവരാണ് മോചിതരായത്. നാടുകടത്തൽ ശിക്ഷയിൽനിന്ന് എല്ലാവരും ഒഴിവായി. വ്യാഴാഴ്ച രാവിലെ 10 ന് മോചിതരായവരിൽ ചിലർ ഇൻഡിഗോ വിമാനത്തിൽ നാട്ടിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങി. ടാക്സി ഡ്രൈവറായി വന്ന സാമ്പത്തിക കുറ്റകൃത്യത്തിന്റെ പേരിൽ 15 വർഷം ജയിൽ ശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിച്ച 68 വയസുകാരനായ മുസ്തഫയും മോചിതനായി.

യുഎഇയിലേക്ക് എപ്പോൾ വേണമെങ്കിലും മടങ്ങിയെത്താമെന്ന വ്യവസ്ഥയിലാണ് മോചനം. മോചിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടവർക്ക് ഷാർജയിൽ ജോലിചെയ്യാനുള്ള തടസവും ഇല്ലാതാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.ഗുരുതരമായ ക്രിമിനല് കുറ്റങ്ങളൊഴികെയുളള കേസുകളില്പെട്ട് ഷാര്ജയിലെ ജയിലുകളില് കഴിയുന്ന മുഴുവന് വിദേശീയരേയും മോചിപ്പിക്കുമെന്ന് ഷാര്ജ ഭരണാധികാരി ഡോ. ഷേക്ക് സുല്ത്താന് ബിന് മുഹമ്മദ് അല് ഖാസിമി കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പിണറായി വിജയന് ഉറപ്പ് നൽകിയിരുന്നു. ഈ ഉറപ്പിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലാണ് നടപടി. ചെക്ക് കേസുകളിലും സിവില് കേസുകളിലുംപെട്ട് മൂന്നു വര്ഷത്തിലേറെയായി ജയിലുകളില് കഴിയുന്നവരെ മോചിപ്പിക്കണമെന്ന് ഷാര്ജ ഭരണാധികാരിയോട് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പിണറായി വിജയന് അഭ്യര്ഥിച്ചിരുന്നു.
