government nominated actor Suresh Gopi for Rajya Sabha.His nomination was under
the art category. The actor said that his nomination was gift by the prime
minister to the people of Kerala. "Its an occassion for joy for everyone.
I was hinted about the nominations earlier." said Suresh Gopi from his
home at Shastamangalam in Thiruvananthapuram. He said he will comment further
after the nomination becomes official with the assent of the President. This is
expected to happen by midnight. Suresh Gopi said he will brief the media
on Thursday morning after temple visit.he actor
was on his way from Ernakulam when this announcement was made. Bad weather
prevented his campaign in Kozhikode on Wednesday. The actor has been a star
campaigner for BJP since the last Lok Sabha election. Though he was offered the
post of chairman of National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) it
could not materialise due to technical reasons.
The party
approached him to contest from Thiruvananthapuram Central seat in the upcoming
assembly elections the actor reportedly declined the offer. Instead he is seen
as a star campaigner for the party. Suresh Gopi, a vocal supporter of
Narendra Modi said in a recent meeting that he was getting
more support from the centre than the state party.
Among the
members of upper house, 12 can be nominated by the President of India from amongst
persons who have special knowledge or practical experience in respect of such
matters as literature, science, art and social service. Members sit for
staggered six-year terms, with one third of the members retiring every two
years.

കലാകാരന്‍മാരുടെ പട്ടികയില്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയാണ് സുരേഷ് ഗോപിയുടെ പേര് കേന്ദ്രം നിര്‍ദേശിച്ചിരുന്നത്. പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നരേന്ദ്ര മോദിയുടെ അധ്യക്ഷതയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന യോഗമാണ് സുരേഷ് ഗോപിയുടെ പേര് രാഷ്ട്രപതിയ്ക്ക് ശുപാര്‍ശ ചെയ്യാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചത്
