Higher educational
institutions should promote green technologies at campuses to minimise
consumption of natural resources and become self-sufficient, Congress MP
Karan Singh said today. Delivering the 7th Annual Lecture at NIIT University
here on its Foundation Day, he said, "Green technologies like earth-air
tunnels, rain water harvesting facilities and water recycling systems would
help the educational institutions to become self-sufficient."
On the occasion, the
varsity also felicitated 'Water Man of India' Rajendra Singh, recipient of the
'Nobel Prize for Water – The Stockholm Water Prize', for his contribution of
bringing water to 1,000 villages in India.Advocating the idea of "green
campuses", Rajendra said, "Our generation has taken mother nature for
granted and we are already paying dearly for it. It is time that we take
decisive measures to minimise damage to the environment and live in harmony
with nature."
