KERALA TO HAVE ENTRENEURSHIP AS COURSE IN B TECH PROGRAMME
Image result for entrepreneurship to be part of the B Tech courseKerala, which in 2012 announced a student entrepreneurial policy, is now going to have technology entrepreneurship as part of its engineering education.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday announced that entrepreneurship would be a key part of the B. Tech course. This was to create an entrepreneurial mindset among engineering students, he told a large gathering of engineering students who had shown up for the `YES! Can’ event organised by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation here.“We are now going to introduce Minors in technology entrepreneurship so that all the additional effort that you take to create a start-up will be recognised and will become a key part of the B.Tech degree,” he told the students.
Chandy noted that at most American universities, undergraduate students could major in one subject and could have a minor in an entirely different field of study. For instance, Mark Zuckerberg, a co-founder, and currently the chairman of Facebook, had majored in computer science but at the same time had a minor in psychology.Chandy also announced that Technopark at Thiruvananthapuram and Startup Village at Kochi would be upgraded to world-class technology incubators so that student entrepreneurs could have the best facilities. He recalled that both the incubators had won Central Government awards.Thousands of youths, mostly engineering students, showed up for `YES! CAN’ which was the second edition of the Young Entrepreneurs Summit held last year on the State Entrepreneurship Day. The event, where many successful young entrepreneurs from outside Kerala made presentations, also helped budding entrepreneurs connect with angel investors and venture capitalists. More than 500 innovative ideas were submitted for the event.
