ഹൃദയം മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കൽ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ വിജയകരം, രോഗിക്ക് ബോധം തെളിഞ്ഞു

When doctors and cops, who
joined hands in the race against time to save a life hogged all the
limelight, the compassionate people of Pariyaram panchayat in Chalakkudy
willingly took a backseat despite making it all possible in the first
place.For the last six months, they have been praying and amassing money to
save Mathew Achadan, a resident of their panchayat. “We managed to collect
over Rs.10 lakh in the last six months and the generous support from other
quarters helped mobilise another Rs.8 lakh. We were told that the entire
treatment would cost around Rs.40 lakh. We have already paid Rs.18 lakh
towards the medical expenses,” said Daly Varghese, a ward member.The
panchayat also helped set up a stitching unit for Mathew’s wife to
compensate for his loss of livelihood. With Mathew advised to undergo
complete rest at least for a year after the surgery, the unit might help
the family of four to earn its bread for sometime to come.
 All that effort would have
come to naught had the traffic cops in the city failed to execute the plan
to transfer the organ from the airport to the hospital the way they did.
More than 100 cops were deployed along the route to ensure the smooth
transfer of the beating heart.“We didn’t divert traffic at any point along
the entire stretch but only regulated the traffic to the MG road from
connecting roads momentarily for the convoy to pass through. Traffic
signals along the route were also sequenced accordingly,” K.S. Baby Vinod,
Assistant Commissioner, Traffic West, who escorted the ambulance right up
to the hospital.The clock ticked 7.44 p.m. and an ambulance came to a
screeching halt outside the casualty of Lisie Hospital here.All eyes
searched for that small blue box containing a beating heart and the moment
they sight it, the private security guards cut their way through onlookers
and mediapersons. It was rushed to the surgery room where 47-year-old
Mathew Achadan and a team of doctors were completing a historic harvesting
of heart.
A resident of ward 15 in
Pariyaram grama panchayat in Chalakudy, Mathew, an autorickshaw driver, was
diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (MCM), where the heart muscle
thickens, six months ago.Stepping down from the driver’s seat of the
ambulance after completing a successful mission was Antony Joseph, a
27-year-old from Mulavukad, who just had the ride of his ten-year-long
career.What he had to share was the tale of a bustling city notorious for
its chaotic traffic making way for a life to be saved. On a normal day,
nine minutes take you nowhere in Kochi city. But in nine minutes starting
from 7.35 p.m. when the air ambulance touched down at the naval airport on
Willingdon Island from Thiruvananthapuram, Joseph managed to cover the 8 km
stretch to Lissie Hospital crossing some of the busiest points such as
Thevara, Jos Junction, Kacherippady, and North Overbridge.Escorting the
ambulance on the police vehicle was Jackson P.F., a senior police driver
attached to the Thevara control room, drawing on his past similar
experiences in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam.
Following the ambulance in the
escort vehicle was Jose Chacko Periappuram, the renowned cardio-thoracic
surgeon who led the medical team that headed the transplantation. “Time is
the key factor [here],” he told The Hindu before
rushing off to conduct the surgery.For the last three months Mathew has
been under the treatment of Dr. Periappuram, who had zeroed in on heart
transplantation as the only way to bring back him to life.
ഒരു നാടിന്റെ ഹൃദയമുരുകിയുള്ള പ്രാർത്ഥനയ്ക്കും കാത്തിരിപ്പിനും ശുഭാന്ത്യം. ഉദ്വേഗം നിറഞ്ഞ 12 മണിക്കൂറുകൾ പിന്നിട്ടപ്പോൾ കനിവുവറ്റാത്ത ഹൃദയങ്ങൾക്ക് ആശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണീർ. എയർ ആംബുലൻസിൽ ഹൃദയമെത്തിച്ചുള്ള സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ ആദ്യ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ വിജയകരം. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് നിന്നും ഇന്നലെ വൈകിട്ട് എയർആംബുലൻസിൽ കൊച്ചിയിൽ എത്തിച്ച ഹൃദയം പുതിയ ശരീരത്തിൽ സ്പന്ദിച്ചു തുടങ്ങി. ലിസി ആശുപത്രിയിൽ ആറുമണിക്കൂറിലേറെ നീണ്ട ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയിൽ തുന്നിച്ചേർത്ത ഹൃദയം യന്ത്രസഹായമില്ലാതെ മാത്യു അച്ചാടന്റെ ശരീരത്തിൽ മിടിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയതായി ഡോ.ജോസ് ചാക്കോ പെരിയപുറം പറഞ്ഞു. തീവ്രപരിചരണ വിഭാഗത്തിലേക്ക് മാറ്റിയ മാത്യുവിന് ബോധം തെളിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ഇന്നലെ,27-07-2015, രാത്രി 7.45ന് ലിസി ആശുപത്രിയിൽ തുടങ്ങിയ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ ഇന്നു പുലർച്ചെ രണ്ടു മണിക്കാണ് പൂർത്തിയായത്. മസ്തിഷ്‌ക മരണം സംഭവിച്ച തിരുവനന്തപുരം ബാറിലെ അഭിഭാഷകൻ നീലകണ്ഠശർമയുടെ ഹൃദയമാണ് മാത്യുവിന് തുടർജീവിതം സമ്മാനിച്ചത്. ഡോ.ജോസ് ചാക്കോ പെരിയപുറത്തിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ അഞ്ച് ശസ്ത്രക്രിയാ വിദഗ്ധരടക്കം ഇരുപതോളം പേരടങ്ങുന്ന വൈദ്യസംഘമാണ് സങ്കീർണമായ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ നടത്തിയത്.
ഇന്നലെ രാത്രി 7.44ന് ലിസി ആശുപത്രിയിലെ വൈദ്യസംഘം മാത്യുവിന്റെ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയാ നടപടികൾ തുടങ്ങി. രാത്രി പത്തിന് ആദ്യഫലം പുറത്തുവന്നു, ആദ്യഘട്ടം വിജയം. പിന്നെയും പ്രാർത്ഥനയോടെ കേരളം കാത്തിരുന്നു. രാത്രി പന്ത്രണ്ടോടെ അടുത്തവാർത്തയെത്തി, ഹൃദയസ്പന്ദനത്തിന് സഹായിക്കുന്ന യന്ത്രം നീക്കി. വീണ്ടും ഉറക്കമൊഴിച്ച് കാത്തിരുന്നവരുടെ മുന്നിലേക്ക് ഇന്നുപുലർച്ചെ രണ്ടിന് ശുഭവാർത്തയെത്തി, പുതിയ ശരീരത്തോട് ഹൃദയം ഹൃദയാലുവാണ്. ഡോക്ടർമാർ ആ സന്തോഷം പങ്കുവച്ചപ്പോൾ കേരളമൊന്നാകെ കൈയടിച്ചു, ആനന്ദക്കണ്ണീരണിഞ്ഞു.
എല്ലാവർക്കും നന്ദി
ഡയലേറ്റഡ് കാർഡിയോ മയോപ്പതി എന്ന രോഗാവസ്ഥയെ തുടർന്നാണ് ഓട്ടോ ഡ്രൈവറായ ചാലക്കുടി പരിയാപുരം സ്വദേശി മാത്യു അച്ചാടന് (47) ഹൃദയം മാറ്റിവെക്കൽ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ വേണ്ടിവന്നത്. നേരിട്ട് അറിയാത്തവർ ഉൾപ്പെടെ കൂടെ നിന്നവരോടെല്ലാം എങ്ങനെ നന്ദി പറയണമെന്ന് മാത്യു അച്ചാടന്റെ ഭാര്യ ബിന്ദുവിന് അറിയില്ല. മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി ഉൾപ്പെടെ കേരളം മുഴുവൻ തങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം ഉണ്ടെന്നറിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ബിന്ദുവിന് കണ്ണുനിറഞ്ഞു. ജീവിതത്തിൽ നിന്ന് വിട പറഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും മാത്യു ഉൾപ്പെടെ അഞ്ചു പേർക്ക് ജീവൻ നൽകാനായതിന്റെ ആശ്വാസത്തിലാണ് നീലകണ്ഠശർമ്മയുടെ കുടുംബം. പ്രാർത്ഥനകളിലൂടെയും പ്രവർത്തിയിലൂടെയും പിന്തുണ നൽകിയ എല്ലാ നല്ല മനസുകളോടും ശസ്ത്രക്രിയക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകിയ ഡോ.ജോസ് ചാക്കോ പെരിയപുറം നന്ദി പറഞ്ഞു. നേവി, ജില്ലാ കളക്ടർ എം.ജി.രാജമാണിക്യം, ജില്ലാ പൊലീസ് മേധാവി, മറ്റ് സർക്കാർ സംവിധാനങ്ങൾ എന്നിവർക്കൊപ്പം നാട്ടുകാരും ഈ ചരിത്ര ഉദ്യമത്തിൽ പങ്കാളികളായി.
