TOURISM TO EXPAND TO VILLAGES

Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar said here on Saturday that efforts would be made to expand tourism to rural areas so as to benefit the villagers.Inaugurating the State-level celebrations of the International Tourism Day at Kottakkunnu, Mr. Anil Kumar said that the products of the artisans living in villages would be brought to the tourism sector.P. Ubaidulla, MLA, presided over the function. District Panchayat president Suhara Mampad inaugurated a stall for handicrafts making. District Collector K. Biju, Tourism deputy director K.A. Sundaran, District Tourism Promotion Council secretary V. Ummer Koya, executive committee member A.K.A. Naseer, V. Madhusoodhanan, C. Sukumaran, Shamsu Kallattel, and Kudumbasree coordinator Mohammed Ismail addressed the gathering.
An exhibition of various value-added products made by the Kudumbasree units and other self-help groups provided a rare shopping experience for the holiday crowds at Kottakkunnu.Different competitions were held for the public as part of the celebrations.Over two dozen youngsters took part in an on-the-spot photography competition.Jayesh Vaniyambalam, Sarjas Areekode and Israth Sulthana won the first, second and third prizes respectively.Shafeek from Government College, Mankada, won the first prize in a quiz competition.
