NETIZENS FROM KERALA CALL FOR INTERNET STRIKE ON 31 ST OCTOBER, 2014

          Gods own country, Kerala is quite famous for its frequent strikes and Hartals. But this time Netizons from Kerala have managed to take it to the next level. While Mr. Modi plans to transform India into a digital country, our brothers in Kerala are pioneering a Hartal of its own kind- ‘Digital Hartal’. Interestingly this Hartal is against AVoId’s frequent internet traffic hikes.Ironically the awareness about Digital Hartal is being spread through Facebook posts and Whatsapp messages. Awareness campaign is calling out to all ‘Mango People Netizens’ in the country, to join the internet boycott. Local media has already picked it up and has aired it in news channels in Kerala. As per the messages, the Hartal is being organised after the recent move by the AVoId ( Airtel, Vodafone and Idea) group to hike data prices and reduce validity of different packs.While some of the messages even went to the extent to compare the boycott with bread strike in England. One message read “…once in England when bread companies increased their prices, whole country did not buy bread for few days, and the company had to decrease their price”.

Kerala Netizens are always ahead of their counterparts in policing and bringing in line the trespassers as was earlier witnessed in cases like attacking Facebook page of Maria Sharapova on her Sachin Tendulkar comment and the repeated and bold comments on New York Times (NYT) for its blatantly degrading and offending cartoon on Mangalyaan mission. The outcome of the attacks on NYT was so great that the publication had to come up with an apology. Now thats some feat.Now the Kerala Netizons have taken it upon themselves to teach AVoId group a lesson. They want to send a clear message to the operators that they are not addicted to internet and thus have chosen October 31st, 2014 as a day when they will not use internet for the whole day. The message ends with tag line “Unity is our greatest strength”.ഇന്റര്‍നെറ്റ് നിരക്കുകള്‍ കൂട്ടിയതിനെതിരെ ഒക്ടോബര്‍ 31ന് മൊബൈല്‍ഫോണ്‍ റീട്ടെയ്‌ലേഴ്‌സ് അസോസിയേഷന്‍ ഓഫ് കേരളയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ ഇന്റര്‍നെറ്റ് ഹര്‍ത്താല്‍ ആചരിക്കും. വര്‍ദ്ധിപ്പിച്ച നിരക്കുകള്‍ പിന്‍വലിക്കണമെന്നും മൊബൈല്‍ ഫോണ്‍ റീട്ടെയിലേഴ്‌സ് കച്ചവടക്കാരുടെ കമ്മീഷന്‍ വര്‍ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കണമെന്നും ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടാണ് ഹര്‍ത്താല്‍. 31ന് മൊബൈല്‍ ഫോണ്‍ ഉപയോക്താക്കള്‍ ഇന്റര്‍നെറ്റ് ഉപയോഗിക്കാതെയും ഫോണുകളില്‍ ഇന്റര്‍നെറ്റ് റീചാര്‍ജുകള്‍ നിര്‍ത്തിവെച്ചും പ്രതിഷേധിക്കുമെന്ന് മൊബൈല്‍ ഫോണ്‍ റീട്ടെയ്‌ലേഴ്‌സ് അസോസിയേഷന്‍ ഓഫ് കേരള സംസ്ഥാന പ്രസിഡന്റ് ഷിഹാന്‍ ബഷി അറിയിച്ചു.
