KOCHI CORPORATION TRIES OUR RUSSIAN TECHNOLOGY TO TACKLE MOSQUITO MENACE

സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയുമായി റഷ്യന്‍ സംഘം

The Kochi Corporation is trying out a Russian device to put an end to the mosquito menace faced by Kochiites.Going by the outcome of the demonstration of the device at the Journalist Colony at Kathrukkadavu, the device seems to be an effective mosquito predator and Mayor Tony Chammany seemed impressed as well. The corporation has tried in vain everything from fogging to spraying insecticide by now that it seems not averse to any device as long as the mosquitoes are caught.But what didn’t impress him was the price tag of the device that would cost anything between Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 1 lakh per piece. Kill mosquitoes but cheaply was the sentiment expressed by him.

Apart from affordability, the corporation would have to wait for certification from the health department that the device is not harmful by any means and more importantly, the nod from the government before it could go on and acquire the Russian instrument.

The device attracts mosquitoes through a steady release of carbon dioxide akin to human exhaling and creating an odour similar to the lactic acid in human sweat through an organic attractant Octanol. Mosquitoes attracted to its proximity are then sucked in by a fan and electric discharge on the grid work. Trapped inside, they are killed in a matter of minutes.

The device placed at Kathrukkadavu a few days ago had many dead mosquitoes inside when it was opened on Saturday. The promoters of the device claimed that one piece could attract mosquitoes in a 100-sqare metre area.

 കൊതുകുകളെ പിടിക്കൂടാന്‍ പുത്തന്‍ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയുമായി റഷ്യന്‍ സംഘം.ഇതിന്റെ ആദ്യ പരീക്ഷണം കൊച്ചിയില്‍ നടന്നു. ഇലക്ട്രോ ഫ്രോഗ് എന്ന ഈ യന്ത്രം ഒരു പ്രത്യേക തരം വാതകം പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചാണ് കൊതുകിനെ ആകര്‍ഷിക്കുന്നത്.50 മീറ്റര്‍ ചുറ്റളവിലുള്ള എല്ലാ കൊതുകുകളേയും ഇതുവഴി ആകര്‍ഷിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയും. യന്ത്രത്തില്‍ പ്രവ!ര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്ന ഫാന്‍ ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് കൊതുകുകളെ ഇതിനുള്ളിലേക്ക് വീഴ്ത്തുന്നത്. ബാറ്ററിയില്‍ പ്രവ!ത്തിക്കുന്ന ഈ യന്ത്രത്തിന് ഒരു ലക്ഷത്തിലേറെ വിലവരും.കത്രിക്കടവ് ജേര്‍ണലിസ്റ്റ് കോളനിയിലായിരുന്നു ആദ്യ പരീക്ഷണം നടത്തിയത്. ഇത് ഉപയോഗിച്ച 2 ദിവസവും കൊതുകുകള്‍ കുറഞ്ഞതായി കോളനിയിലുള്ളവ!ര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. പാര്‍ശ്വഫലങ്ങളില്ലെന്ന ആരോഗ്യവകുപ്പിന്റെ സര്‍ട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റും സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ അനുമതിയും കിട്ടിയാല്‍ പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കുമെന്ന് മേയര്‍ ടോണി ചമ്മിണി പറഞ്ഞു.
