ONAM CULTURAL
PROCESSION-2014
The procession associated with Onam celebrations attracted a lot
of people in the state capital on Thursday. One of the main attractions were
floats that were unique for their innovation and artistic content and many of
them conveyed messages that were relevant to the society.A float, depicting
road safety especially received applause from the crowd. The theme was a family
that had no Onam because of the death of a family member following an accident.
The theme of the float was "alert today, alive tomorrow."The float by
the Excise department dealt on the theme of liquor prohibition while the Fire
Force tried to convey the message that forest fires were caused by humans. They
tried to draw attention to the forest fires in Wayanad a few months ago through
their float. While the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation presented a 'slum-free'
theme, the museum and zoo department presented a float on animals and biodiversity.
Floats were also presented by others such as the Ayurveda College.
The Reserve Bank presented a float on financial security while the
State Food Security Commission presented a float on food security. Kudumbashree
focused on rooftop farming while KTDC focused on tourism achievements.Other
than floats, the procession also included various cultural icons and modern
symbols of cultural evolution. Artists from neighbouring states also presented
their skills in the procession.
