TRIBUTE PAID TO K.PUDAYABHANU

കെ.പി. ഉദയഭാനു അന്തരിച്ചു

 ഗായകനും സംഗീത സംവിധായകനുമായ കെ.പി.ഉദയഭാനു അന്തരിച്ചു. 77 വയസായിരുന്നു.2014 ജനുവരി 5 നു  രാത്രി 8.30ഓടെ തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ വസതിയിലായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം. കഴിഞ്ഞ കുറച്ചു നാളുകളായി രോഗശയ്യയിലായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്ര ഗാനാലാപനരംഗത്തെ പഴയതലമുറയിലെ പ്രശസ്ത ഗായകനും സംഗീതസം‌വിധായകനുമായിരുന്നു കെ.പി. ഉദയഭാനു. 1936 ജൂൺ 6ന് പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ തരൂരിലായിരുന്നു ജനനം. കെ.ജെ.യേശുദാസും പി.സുശീലയും എത്തുന്നതിനു മുന്പ് മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്ര ഗാനശാഖയെ സന്പന്നമാക്കിയ ഗായകനായിരുന്നു ഉദയഭാനു. എന്തിനിത്ര പഞ്ചസാര...(നായരു പിടിച്ച പുലിവാൽ)​ വെള്ളിനക്ഷത്രമേ നിന്നെ നോക്കി...(രമണൻ), വാടരുതീമലരിനി...(സത്യഭാമ) കാനനഛായയിൽ...(രമണൻ),​ അനുരാഗനാടകത്തിൽ...(നിണമണിഞ്ഞ കാൽപ്പാടുകൾ), ചുടുകണ്ണീരാലെൻ...(ലൈലാമജ്നു), താരമേ താരമേ(ലൈലാമജ്നു) തുടങ്ങി ആറരപതിറ്റാണ്ടു നീണ്ട സംഗീത ജീവിതത്തിൽ ഗൃഹാതുരത്വം തുളുമ്പുന്ന നിരവധി ഗാനങ്ങൾ മലയാളികൾക്ക് പകർന്നു തന്നിട്ടുണ്ട് ഉദയഭാനു.2009 ൽ ഭാരത സർക്കാർ ഉദയഭാനുവിനെ പത്മശ്രീ നൽകി ആദരിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി

KP Udayabhanu, the seniormost playback singer in Malayalam,was born to NS Varma and Smt Ammu Nethyaramma at Tharur in Palakkad district of Kerala on June 6, 1936. Nephew of the renowned leader of freedom movement and founder chief editor of Mathrubhoomi K P Kesava Menon, Udayabhanu spent his childhood in Singapore where his father ran a business. Losing his mother at the tender age of seven, he returned to his homeland in 1944 along with his siblings. At Palakkad, the children grew up under the watchful eyes of their maternal uncle K P Appukkutta Menon.Udayabhanu joined the Thyagaraja Sangeetha Vidyalaya in Kalpathy, where he came under the tutelage of legends like Flute Krishna Iyer, Palakkad Mani Iyer and MD Ramanathan. Although fairly and deeply entrenched in the classical tradition, he chose light music and playback singing as his chief domains.

Udayabhanu began his career as an announcer at the Kozhikode station of All India Radio In 1955. The stint at AIR brought him closer to a galaxy of gifted writers and musicians like P Bhaskaran, K Raghavan, Thikkodian, Santha P Nair and K Padmanabhan Nair. This also paved way for his entry into film music. Udayabhanu went on to record many unforgettable melodies, besides proving his mettle as a gifted composer.
