Kottarakara Friends
Association visted Kodaikanal -Pillar Rocks on 19th September, 2013.
The team includes Prof. John Kurakar, President of the Kerala Kavya Kala
Sahithy, Mr. Sarasan Kottarakara, Prof. Molly Kurakar, Mr. Monachan, Mr. M.R
Rajan Malayilazhikom, Mr. Jacob, Mr. Rajan Mathew, Mr.Manu Kurakar, Mr. Roy and
other fifty members.Kodaikanal is
a beautiful hill station in south India. There are many places to see like
Coakers Walk, Green Valley view, Pine Forest, Pillar Rock, Lake etc. It is
situated at Dindigul district, Tamilnadu. Regular bus services available from
Kodaikanal to Madurai, Palani, Trichy, Banglore, Coimbatore, Theni etc. From
Kochi it is around 295km distance. Best season is April to June and September
to October. There are many Hotels and Resorts available for staying but tariff
may change according to season. The season time the room rent will be doubled
as off season.
Three Boulders stand
shoulder to shoulder vertically measuring to a height of about 122 meters (400
feet), providing a beautiful view. It is 8 Kms from the lake. It has a mini
garden with lovely flowers. In the shadows of the pillars are shady woods that
invite picnickers. The chamber between the two pillars is called Devil's
kitchen.The Pillar rocks are three granite
boulders which are seen standing vertically shoulder to shoulder and it is now
a very famous tourist spot for many visitors. These rocks are measuring a
height of about 400 feet from the ground and the chambers that are seen between
the two pillars are known as Devil's Kitchen. The
Pillar Rocks have gained popularity as the years have passed by and during the
peak season there is a huge rush of visitors to this place. The shady woods
that are in the vicinity of these huge boulders are a perfect spot to enjoy a
picnic.
