ONAM KIT FOR TRIBAL FAMILIES
1.36 lakh tribal families
in Kerala to get Onam kit
The Kerala government Wednesday,7th August,2013,
decided to supply free 'Onam kit' with food articles and other provisions to
1.36 lakh tribal families across the state during the Onam festival. The
government has earmarked Rs 8.50 crore for the purpose, Chief Minister Oommen
Chandy told reporters after a cabinet meeting here. The festival will be
celebrated next month.
On government's decision to revive Attappady Hills Area Development Society (AHADS) in tribal hamlets of Palakkad district from where infant deaths were reported, he said Rs 35 lakh has been sanctioned to start its work. The decision was to ensure that food and other cereals reach adivasi settlements, he said.
A meeting convened by Chandy recently decided to revive the activities of AHADS, which were stagnant as Japanese aid was stopped.
