ANNOUNCED FARMER AWARDS

of Munroethuruth in Kollam district has been selected for this year’s
‘Karshakothama’ award instituted by the State Government for integrated
farming.P R Joseph of Mala in Thrissur district bagged the ‘Harithamitra’ award
for the best vegetable farmer. Vinod Karthikeyan of Kadinamkulam, in the
district, won the ‘Udyan Shreshta’ award for best horticulturist.The awards
carry a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 each, a gold medal, plaque and citation.
Minister for Agriculture K P Mohanan announced the awards here on Tuesday.The
Nelkkathir award for the best group farming society has gone to the Vadakke
Konchira Punchakole Padasekhara Samithi, Thrissur.
The
award comprises a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000, a gold medal, plaque and citation.T
S Rajeev, Assistant Professor, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences,
Mannuthy, has bagged the ‘Krishi Vignan’ award for the best agricultural
scientist. ‘Karshakamitra’ award for agricultural extension has gone to Laiju M
Philip, veterinary surgeon of Mannarkkad Polyclinic.Award for the best dairy
farmer has been bagged by Abdul Jaleel of Mandankode, Malappuram.P V Mohanan,
senior veterinary surgeon of Kannur, won the ‘Karshakabharathi’ award for the
best farm journalist. ‘Yuvakarshaka’ award for best young farmer has gone to N
S Rubeesh of Eranakulam. Reji Thomas of Pathanamthitta has bagged the award for
best poultry farmer.‘The Green Report’ of Indiavision won the ‘Harithamudra’
award for the best television programme on farming for the year 2011-12. The
award for this year has gone to ‘Bhoomi Malayalam’ of Surya TV.The awards will
be presented at the Farmers’ Day celebration to be organised on
Chingam 1, the commencement of Malayalam Calendar year, at Nagampadam Maidan in
Kottayam.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the function.Union
Minister of State for Agriculture K V Thomas will release the logo of Kuttanad
Radio, a community radio launched by the Agriculture Department for the benefit
of Kuttanad farmers.The Chief Minister will also declare the date of
commencement of ‘Neera’ production, a sweet juice from the coconut tree, at the
function, K P Mohanan said.
