RAJESH KHANNA’S FIRST
DEATH ANNIVERSARY
One year ago the nation mourned the loss of India’s iconic actor
Rajesh Khanna. Today we remember the phenomenon and his magic
His irresistibly youthful charm,
lopsided grin and unmatchable style made Rajesh Khanna the most romantic actor in Indian
cinema in the 70s. His acting skills and iconic status as a star captured the
country’s collective imagination. The frenzy and hysteria Rajesh Khanna
generated in his prime was beyond words. But it came to an end when the silver
screen sensation breathed his last on this day last year. He was 69.
Khanna played a variety of roles and
was part of numerous gems over three magical decades. Apart from being a
performer par excellence he was also a true musical sensation – most of the
iconic songs of the ’70s and the ’80s were picturised on him. From the
melancholic Kuch
to log kahenge (Amar Prem) and Zindagi
ke safar mein(Aap Ki Kasam), to the romantic Yeh shaam mastani and O
mere dil ke chain (Mere Jeevan Saathi) and the energetic Duniya me logon ko (Desh
Premi) and Aaj na chodenge bas hamjoli (Kati
Patang)…the list is endless! It is through
his movies and songs that he is still alive for millions of Indians even today.
When he bid adieu to the world last year, biggies from
B-town and fans from all over the world gathered to mourn the death of India’s
first real superstar. With him on his last journey were his estranged wife
Dimple Kapadia, who took care of him in his last days, his younger daughter
Rinke and son-in-law actor Akshay Kumar, who is married to Khanna’s elder
daughter Twinkle.
Even after Khanna’s death, the
controversy over his property made headlines. The actor’s complicated
association with Anitha
Advani and his estranged wife Dimple caused
disputes over the superstar’s property, including his palatial house
(Aashirwad) in Mumbai. A year later, the two have reportedly managed to resolve
the issue amicably with an out-of-court settlement. We at BollywoodLife salute
Rajesh – the charmer, the super sensation, the fine performer – on his
first death anniversary. Send your messages in memory of India’s first
superstar…
.
In a fitting tribute to Bollywood legend
Rajesh Khanna on his first death anniversary, a statue will be installed at the Bandra bandstand alongside prominent personalities like Yash Chopra,DevAnand and Raj Kapoor.
On July 18 last year, the 69-year-old actor passed away at his
residence 'Aashirwaad' after being critically ill.
