BOOK ON ENVIRONMENT RELEASED
‘Paristhithi
Padanathinu Oru Aamukham,’ (A preface to environment studies), written by noted
environmentalist A. Achyuthan and published by Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad
(KSSP) in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of the science and
literary movement was released during a public function here on Monday,22nd
April,2013.Former Forest Minister and CPI leader Benoy Viswom released the book
by handing over a copy of the book to the Chavara Cultural Centre Director Fr.
Jose Edappadiyil at the Chavara Cultural Centre Hall here.
With
almost all the universities in the country making environmental studies a
mandatory subject for students, the book, which gives valuable insights into
the myriad challenges faced by the environment in the changing times, is
expected to be discussed seriously in the academic and non-academic circles
alike.According to Prof. Achyuthan, the book, which is his 16 title, was
written and designed in a way as to make it palatable and useful for academic
as well as non-academic reader alike. The book discusses environmental issues
ranging from different sort of pollutions to environmental morality and from
the historic context and relevance of Silent Valley agitation to the widespread
arsenic poisoning in Bangladesh.
Parishad
district president P.K. Balakrishnan welcomed the gathering and Parishad former
president Prof. K. Sreedharan presided over the function. Prof. I.G. Bhaskara
Panikkar and Deshabhimani weekly editor K.P. Mohanan among others were present
on the occasion.
