ANGANWADIS TO OPEN DOORS
TO CHILDREN OF MIGRANT WORKERS
The
children of migrant labourers will be admitted to anganwadis in Ernakulam
district and given midday meals. The project will be implemented through the
Centrally-administered Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS).The daily
expenses of juvenile homes and government observation homes under the district
social welfare department are also being met through the ICPS.H. Ramamurthy,
District Social Welfare officer and programme officer of the Integrated Child
Development Services, said more employees would be appointed to strengthen
project being implemented in the State.“Children committing minor offences and
destitute children are being taken care of by the child welfare committee. The
Juvenile Justice Board is entrusted with the maintenance of children vulnerable
to committing offences and those convicted by the court,” he said.
However,
even those convicted had been found to be susceptible to repeated offence.
Hence it was important to give them protection and counselling, Mr. Ramamurthy
said.Training sessions on the laws pertaining to the protection of children are
being organised as part of the ICPS.
