DR. K.P NAIR AWARD FOR
SWAMINATHAN, VALIATHAN
Agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan and
cardiac surgeon M.S. Valiathan have been selected for this year’s Dr. K.P. Nair
Lifetime Achievement Award. The award has been instituted by Dr. Nair’s
Hospital here in memory of its founder Dr. K.P. Nair.Announcing this at a press
conference here on Thursday, director of the hospital P. Mohan Nair said that
while Dr. Swaminathan had been chosen for the award in the category of science
and technology, Dr. Valiathan would be awarded for his contribution to the
field of medical science.The awards would be presented at a function on
December 5 marking the 44th anniversary of the hospital.The occasion would also
mark the 19th anniversary of the School of Nursing attached to the hospital.
The awards carry a cash prize of Rs.10,000 each and a trophy.
As a prelude to the founder’s day
celebrations, the hospital would organise continuing medical education
programme on November 25 in association with the Kollam branch of the Indian
Medical Association. Five topics of contemporary medical importance would be
covered by the programme, he said.A medical exhibition from December 1 to 4
would be organised in connection with the event.
