IS NATIONAL MANUFACTURING DAY
Manufacturing Day has been designed to expand
knowledge about and improve general public perception of manufacturing careers
and manufacturing's value to the U.S. economy. Manufacturing Day is for
students, parents, educators, media, customers, suppliers and the community at
large. Visitors will learn about real career opportunities, training, and
resources. In addition, manufacturers will learn about business improvement
resources and services delivered through manufacturing extension partnerships.
Local Manufacturers Highlight the Importance of
Manufacturing to Preble County and the Dayton RegionHow important is
manufacturing to Preble County and the Dayton Region? Manufacturing represents over 100,000 employees
in the Preble County 12-county region and contributes $4.7 billion in annual payroll
and $32 billion in annual sales, according to a Wright State University study
commissioned by the Dayton Tooling and Manufacturing Association in 2011. A bright spot for workers, manufacturing wages
in Ohio are 9 percent higher than Ohio’s economy-wide average.Local
manufacturers are joining others across the region and the country for National
Manufacturing Day on October 5. This
nationwide event will highlight manufacturing’s vital role in the economy andspotlight
the wide range of well-paying careers for high skill workers available in
modern, advanced manufacturing facilities.
Several local manufacturers will open their doors to the public for
informationsessions and tours.Preble and Darke County high school counselors,
educators, and administrators will get a sneak preview on October 4 with tours
of Norgren in Brookville and Silfex in Eaton, followed by information about Sinclair
Community College’s manufacturing programs.
This special event is a collaborative venture between Dayton Region
Manufacturing Association (DRMA) members and Sinclair Community College.The
general public is invited to discover modern manufacturing and learn about
local career opportunities by attending information sessions and open houses by
local manufacturers on October 5. October
is Manufacturing Month, according to Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC)
and Oct. 5 is National Manufacturing Day, as companies all across the state
will open their doors to students, parents, educators and community members.
The Waukesha County Business Alliance has scheduled 14 tours at local
manufacturing plants for area high school students, parents and educators to
attend.
