VILAPPILSALA ACTION COUNCIL
 FOILS POLICE MOVE

The move by district administration and the police to move equipments needed to set up a leachate treatment plant at the Vilappilsala waste processing plant, as per an HC order here was foiled Friday,3rd August,2012, after locals led by the action council blocked the road leading to the plant. The police and the district administration officials retreated after it was known that they will not be able to implement the High Court order without using force.A tense situation prevailed in the area as locals including women and children under the join action council stopped the vehicles which arrived with police protection. The protestors lit bonfires on the road to prevent the entry of vehicles. The fire was doused by the police using water cannon and the protestors arrested and removed.

ADM P.K. Girija said the district administration will appraise the High Court about the situation in Vilappilsala and the fact they had tried to implement the court order. The protest was led by Vilappil panchayat president Shobhanakumari and leaders of various political parties. A 2500-strong contingent of police including 500 women were deployed in the area. Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly N. Shakthan who arrived at the venue announced his support for the struggle.
