PAID TO T.VENUGOPALAN,
NOTED JOURNALIST

Senior journalist and former deputy editor of Mathrubhumi T. Venugopalan died Friday,3rd
August,2012,.He was 82.Venugopalan who joined Mathrubhumi in 1952 after his
studies in Samoothiri College, Kozhikode and and Kerala Varma College, Thrissur
served in various capacities till 1988.
The winner of the first Swadeshabhimani Kesari award instituted by the state
government Venugopalan is known for his efforts to enhance professionalism
among journalists in Kerala. The News Craft workshops, a major initiative of
Venugopalan while he was the secretary of the Kerala Union of Working
Journalists helped to inculcate a sense of professionalism.
The Kerala Press Academy is an offshoot of the News Craft workshop initiated by the KUWJ.Venugopalan also headed journalist training programmes of media organisations like Mathrubhumi, Madhyamam, Express and Deepika.
