                  Pregnant woman beaten with hot iron rod

Aneight-month pregnant woman, who already had four daughters, was beaten with a hot iron rod by her husband and in-laws in Golia village of Balotra sub-division in Barmer as they thought that she would again give birth to a girl.Though the incident took place on August 16, a case was lodged in woman police station only on Wednesday following a court order. Police have got the victim, Ganga, examined and begun investigation in the matter. So far no arrests have been made.Barmer superintendent of police Rahul Barhat said that Ganga, wife of one Chain Singh Rajpurohit, was living separately in Balotra Housing Board Colony along with her four daughters. She stated in her report that her husband lured her to his village Golia on the night of August 16.Her husband Chain Singh, a relative Bhagwan Singh and mother-in-law Jamna Devi beat her and burnt her with hot iron rod. She kept screaming but her in-laws did not stop torturing her. When her 10-year-old daughter tried to save her, she too was burnt with the iron rod.
According to the SP, the victim said that she has four daughters and is again pregnant. Hence her husband wanted to get rid of her and her fatherin-law wanted to get his son married again.The in-laws even took away her ‘streedhan’ and the papers of her house. Even in the past, her inlaws used to beat her often due to which she started living separately. The Barmer SP added that as per the directions from the court, a case was lodged under sections 327, 498A, 323, 326, 341, 394, 406 and 308 against Ganga’s husband Chain Singh, mother-inlaw Jamna Devi, brother-in-law Arjun Singh and relative Bhagwan Singh at the woman police station, Barmer.
