AKADEMY AWARD
Octogenarian
political leader K.R Gouri Amma, who leads Janadhiatya Samrakshana Samit (JSS),
a constituent of the ruling UDF has been selected for Kerala Sahitya Academy's
award for 2011 for her autobiography. Announcing the awards at a press conference
here Wednesday, Academy president Preumpadavam Sreedharan said all the awards
comprised a cash award of Rs 25,000, a testimonial and plaque each. Subhash
Chandran won the award for his novel 'Manushyanu Oru Aamukham' (A foreward for
man). Kureeppuzha Sreekumar won the award for his poems 'keezhalan', while
Balasubramanyan bagged the award for his play 'Cholliyaattam'.U.K. Kumaran was
selected for the short story award for his collection 'Polisukarante Penmakkal'
(Daughters of a policeman). The award for literary criticism went to B Rajeevan
for his book' Vaakkukalum vasthukakkalu' (Words and Objects).
L S Rajagopalan's 'Eaanavum Thaalavum' bagged the award under the Informatics
Literature, he said. T.N. Gopakumar's Tharamngangal' (Volga Waves) bagged
the award under 'Travalogue' categtory and K B Prasannakumar's 'Ka" won
the award under the division of translations. K Radhakrishnan won the
academy award for Children's literature titled Sreepadmanabha Swami Prize for
his book 'Gandhijiyude Aalmakatha Kuttikalkku' (Biography of Gandhiji's for
Children). The awards would be presented to the winners this
month in connection with the anniversary celebrations of the
academy.
