FAN SOUTH ASIA LAUNCHES NEW FOUR YEAR STRATEGY

FANSOUTH ASIA LAUNCHES NEW FOUR-YEAR STRATEGY

FANSA strategy 2012-16File 1559FANSA has released its new four-year strategy at the first annual general meeting of the new independent FAN Global focusing on the human right to water and sanitation, sector governance, equity and inclusion, climate change. After four years of successfully influencing policy-making processes at local, national and regional levels, FANSA developed this strategy document to direct its work for 2012-2016. Priority areas that FANSA will focus during the period 2012-16 are:

·         Human right to water and sanitation, to promote a strong and vibrant peoples movement towards achieving the rights with particular emphasis on respecting, protecting and fulfilling water and sanitation needs of the poor and marginalised
·         Sector governance, to enhance capacities of civil society and community organisations for effective engagement with national governments to increase accountability, transparency, responsiveness and capacity of the agencies responsible to deliver WASH needs of the people
·         Equity and inclusion, to develop enabling conditions for the poor, vulnerable and marginalised populations to significantly improve their access to basic water and sanitation services
·         Climate change, to enhance learning and engagement opportunities for FANSA members to drive WASH priorities into Climate Change adaptation strategies
·         Increased recognition and visibility, to build on the current strengths and develop FANSA as a vibrant, democratic and highly valued CSO network championing water and sanitation
Danielle Morley, outgoing Executive Secretary and new FAN Global Trustee, welcomes the publication, saying:

"The publication of the FAN South Asia strategy 2012-2016 is an important milestone. It has been developed inclusively, building on the knowledge and demands of more than 450 FAN South Asia members through consultation. This strategy and the ability to mobilise local organisations at the grassroots throughout the region, gives FAN South Asia a unique position and strength to move forward, to find new partners and to have greater influence and impact."
