FREE DIALYSIS CENTER LAUNCHED AT KOTTAYAM DISTRICT HOSPITAL
A free dialysis centre that consists of four dialysis machines was inaugurated at the District Hospital on Saturday,14th July,2012.The machines, worth a total of Rs.35 lakh, have been installed by the district panchayat with support from the Qatar-based Kottayam District Arts and Cultural Association (KODACA) and Power Vision Charitable Trust.Inaugurating the dialysis centre, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that it would ensure the development of the District Hospital.The financial limitations of the State government should never be held responsible for the lack of development.The hospital currently possesses sufficient number of doctors and paramedical staff in accordance with its bed strength. The various existing factors were conducive for the growth of facilities. However, several changes must be brought about to ensure that the potential of the hospital, which is situated at the heart of the busy town, was tapped to its fullest, he said. He thanked the organisations funded the establishment of the dialysis units. He added that similar efforts made jointly by the government and voluntary organisations could lead to significant development in society.
District panchayat president Radha V. Nair presided over the function. Cine actor Fahad Fazil, director Aashiq Abu, Kottayam Municipal chairman Sunny Kalloor, district police chief C. Rajagopal, district panchayat vice-president K.A. Appachan, members Sally George, Philson Mathews, District Medical Officer N.M. Ayesha Bhai, Power Vision Charitable Trust chairman K.C. John, managing director Joy Thanevelil, National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) district programme manager A. Nisar, Professor Jayakumar of the Government Medical College, Kottayam, Nephrology department, KODACA president James George, general secretary Muhammed Siyad and Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust managing director K.M. Anandakumar were among those who participated in the function.
