R.SELVARAJ SWORN IN AS MLA

 R. Selvaraj, who won the Neyyattinkara bypoll as a Congress candidate, Monday18th June,2012  sworn in as MLA.He swore in before the Speaker after the Question Hour here at the state assembly.Selvaraj, who was a sitting CPM legislator, quit the party for differences of opinion with its bosses and joined the Congress and won the bypoll against his nearest rival and CPM candidate F. Lawrence by 6,334 votes.Selvaraj had earlier said that it would be better to commit suicide than join ranks with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), but he got the Congress membership and later the ticket to contest the Neyattinkara constituency.

With this, the Chandy government's tally has gone up to 73 seats, while the LDF (Left Democratic Front) tally went down by one to 67 as compared to 72 for UDF and 68 to LDF in the April 2011 assembly polls. He also becomes the first man to become the MLA of the ruling front as well as opposition in the same assembly session.
