MOBILE SUPERMARKET
A mini market on wheels, known as mobile Triveni
supermarket, was flagged off here on Saturday23rd,June,2012, by Hibi Eden, MLA.
An initiative of Consumerfed, the venture is one among the six mobile
supermarkets planned by the cooperative body in Ernakulam district. The scheme
had begun in the district with the operation of a mobile store at Piravom
earlier. A third vehicle was launched at Paravur on Saturday along with
Ernakulam.
Each mobile supermarket costs around Rs.15 lakh including
provisions worth Rs.3 lakh, according to Consumerfed managing director Rigi
G.Nair. The vehicle would serve areas according to a schedule set by people’s
representatives. Under the mobile Triveni scheme, 50 vehicles will serve
various areas in the State. The venture had received good response from people,
he said. Over 300 items are available on the vehicle, with prices reduced by
about 10 per cent on an average. Ten essential commodities are also sold at
reduced rates.
