Photo:Vipin ChandranA mini market on wheels, known as mobile Triveni supermarket, was flagged off here on Saturday23rd,June,2012, by Hibi Eden, MLA. An initiative of Consumerfed, the venture is one among the six mobile supermarkets planned by the cooperative body in Ernakulam district. The scheme had begun in the district with the operation of a mobile store at Piravom earlier. A third vehicle was launched at Paravur on Saturday along with Ernakulam.
Each mobile supermarket costs around Rs.15 lakh including provisions worth Rs.3 lakh, according to Consumerfed managing director Rigi G.Nair. The vehicle would serve areas according to a schedule set by people’s representatives. Under the mobile Triveni scheme, 50 vehicles will serve various areas in the State. The venture had received good response from people, he said. Over 300 items are available on the vehicle, with prices reduced by about 10 per cent on an average. Ten essential commodities are also sold at reduced rates.
