168 SRI LANKAN TAMILS DETAINED

 Kerala police detained 168 Sri Lankan Tamils, including 68 women and children, under suspicious circumstances, 4^th June, 2012,night. According to police sources here today, Sakthikulangara Police detained the Lankan Tamils, who were brought here by an agent promising them to take Australia.Based on an intelligence input, the police took into custody the Lankan Tamils, who were waiting near a boat in the coastal area.The agent had brought the Lankan Tamils here from various refugee camps in Tamil Nadu. The police have begun verification process of the detained persons.The refugees had paid Rs one lakh to Rs five lakh to the agent for their trafficking to Australia.However, the agent, the boat driver, and their helper managed to escape from the scene when the police reached the spot (UNI)
