PUTHUPPALLY RAGHAVAN AWARD PRESENTED TO V.M
SUDHEERAN
The Puthuppally
Raghavan Memorial Award was presented to Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran by poet
Puthussery Ramachandran at a function here on Wednesday9th May,2012.The award,
carrying a trophy, citation and cash prize of Rs.25,000 has been instituted by
the Puthussery Raghavan Family Trust.Addressing the gathering after receiving
the award, Mr. Sudheeran said that there was an urgent need to wipe out not
only the ‘quotation' gangs but also those promoting and engaging such gangs. Only
if such gangs were suppressed the strength of the administration and democracy
could be proved. The brutal murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T.P.
Chandrasekharan at Onchiyam was not only unfortunate but a shame on Kerala
society. It posed questions whether a State like Kerala was turning barbaric.
Mr. Chandrashekaran who stood by his ideals was a leader of guts. It should be
ensured that democracy was not overtaken by barbarians.Mr. Sudheeran wanted
political parties to adopt a general approach towards all caste, religious and
communal organisations.
He declared at
the meeting that the cash prize received through the award would be donated to
the C.H. Muhammed Koya Charitable Society engaged in serving poor cancer patients
The meeting was inaugurated by P.K. Gurudasan, MLA. CPI district secretary R.
Ramachandran presided. Mayor Prasanna Earnest and managing editor of Kerala
Shabdam B.A. Rajakrishnan spoke.
