MANGO FESTIVAL
More than 70 varieties of mangoes from across the country will tempt the people of the city from Friday18th May,2012.Different varieties of fleshy, juicy, and tasty mangoes are arriving in the city for the third edition of the National Mango Festival being organised by the Kerala State Horticulture Mission and the Mango Growers Association at Kanakakkunnu Palace till May 27.In addition to soaking in the sight of umpteen mango varieties, visitors will get an opportunity to sample different varieties and even take home a mango graft.More than 100 tonnes of mango will be brought for the 10-day festival from different parts of south India. “Several varieties of mangoes from Kerala, such as Kilichundan (three types), Neelam, Kalapady, Varikka, Sindooram, and Chandrakaran, and mangoes from other parts of the country, such as Jahangir from Maharashtra, Daseri from Delhi, and Banglora from Karnataka, are some of the varieties that will be exhibited at the festival,” K. Prathapan, Mission Director, said.
The festival will be inaugurated by Minister for Agriculture K.P. Mohanan.Value-added products such as frozen mangoes, mango pickle, mango pulp, and mango candies from the Agro Industries Corporation will be part of the festivalThe exhibition aims at providing more information to farmers on effective cultivation strategies and information on the different qualities of mangoes to the public.
