NEW SURGERY METHOD TO REMOVE KIDNEY STONES

NEW SURGERY METHOD TO
REMOVE KIDNEY STONES
The retrograde intra renal surgery (RIRS) is the most modern therapy to remove kidney stones, by using a flexible ureterorenoscope and holmium laser lithotripter. The holmium laser would powder any renal stone of any composition and the patient would be discharged within 24 hours and he or she could attend to normal work from the next day, said consultant urologist of Indus Hospitals J.K. Vijay Kumar. Before RIRS, which was being used in major cities in the country for the last few years, kidney stones were removed by making a small hole in the kidney from the rear side, which involved bleeding. There was also a threat of intestine, pleura and lung getting damaged. This problem was more in the case of ectopic kidney (kidney at a place different from its normal position), obese and short persons. This procedure has been introduced for the first time in the State outside Hyderabad, said Dr. Vijay Kumar. (kidney disease)
