MALAYALA MANORAMA HAS WON THREE INTERNATIONAL AWARDS

In a yet another boast to its global recognition Malayala Manorama has won three awards at the 11th Asian Media Awards 2012. The awards were declared at the annual convention of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, WAN-IFRA, in Bali, Indonesia.In the category of news photography, The Week's Salil Bera, the chief photographer based in Kolkata has won the gold medal. He won the award for the photograph in which a police guard is being attacked by a leopard which had forayed into a village in the Siliguri district of West Bengal.

Meanwhile, Saeer A. Hameed of Malayala Manorama's Malappuram unit bagged the silver for his photograph which froze the efforts of villagers to rescue an elephant that fell into a well in Valanchery in Malappuram.Malayala Manorama won the bronze in 'Best in Community Service' category for the various social service schemes initiated by Manorama Weekly, which included distribution of seeds for vegetable cultivation, activities facilitating literacy programmes, distribution of free coupons that could be used in Triveni Supermarkets, etc.Others in the winners list included Star (Malaysia), South China Morning Post, Jawa Pos, Jakarta Globe, Mid Day, Gulf News, AP, Kompas Gramedia, Singapore Press Holdings, Asahi Shimbun, among others. Over 700 media executives from 31 countries gathered in the convention.
